About Me
š Hi there! Iām Nicholas Guilbeault, a reasearch software engineer with a passion for neuroscience, machine learning, and open-source technology.
šØāš» Currently, Iām at the Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit working closely with machine learning researchers and neuroscientists at the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour to build tools for intelligent experimental control and data analysis.
š Iām the lead developer of the Bonsai.ML project and contributor to the open-source GitHub repository. Bonsai.ML integrates powerful ML functionality into the Bonsai-Rx visual reactive programming language, enabling researchers to conduct intelligent closed-loop experiments using machine learning algorithms.
š During my PhD at the University of Toronto, I focused on developing computational tools to study the neural circuits and behaviour of larval zebrafish. My research combined closed-loop behavioural assays (fish VR), neural circuit imaging (two-photon calcium imaging), closed-loop perturbations (optogenetics and ablations), and machine learning data analysis to uncover insights into the neural underpinnings of sensorimotor processing.
āļø I'm driven to understand how things work. In my spare time, I enjoy undertaking personal projects where I can learn about new technologies, sift through internet archives, and experiment with new tools and frameworks.
š§ Iām always on the lookout to learn new things. I love keeping up-to-date with the latest advances in neuroscience and AI, particularly BCIs and neurotechnology.
ā½ Outside of work, I like to spend time outdoors, playing football, hiking, games, and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy travelling to new places, and Iām always up for a good book or a thought-provoking podcast.
š± I'm keen to collaborate on new projects and ideas. Let's connect and create something amazing together!
